Why is it so hard to quit smoking?

 

Quitting smoking is a process. It’s not just about willpower and determination, it’s also about understanding the reasons why you smoke in the first place. Why do we crave cigarettes? Why does quitting feel like such an impossible task?

Let’s take a look…

There are a few reasons why it is hard to quit smoking. The first reason is that nicotine is very addictive. Nicotine is a stimulant that acts as a poison. When you take nicotine, it stimulates the central nervous system and causes your heart rate to increase and breathing gets faster. Nicotine also increases dopamine levels which give us feelings of pleasure. We have receptors in our brains for this chemical because it has an important role: It helps us feel good!

When you take the drug, you usually feel good. However, this feeling doesn’t last and soon drops off. So you need to take more of it in order to keep getting that high! Pretty soon your body becomes dependent on nicotine so much so that if you stop taking it altogether, like when quitting smoking cigarettes, for example, withdrawal symptoms will start showing.

Another reason is that smoking has become a habit and habits can be difficult to break. Find yourself habitually reaching for a cigarette after a meal, after coffee, when you’re stressed and so on?

We tend to develop habits because they are helpful. For example, brushing your teeth after every meal. It’s important to understand that habits are developed over time and usually become automatic behaviours so we do them without thinking about the consequences or even without being aware of them.

It’s important to remember that if you don’t make an effort, then there is little chance of breaking this automatic behaviour and even less chance of achieving your goal. Remember quitting smoking isn’t just about not having another cigarette but also stopping the physical addiction associated with it.

The last reason is that smokers usually smoke when they’re around other people who also smoke and this triggers them to light up too. It’s called a “smoking circle” and it’s very hard not to join in, even if you’re trying to quit smoking cigarettes.

So how can we make quitting easier?

You may have tried going cold turkey, using nicotine patches and gum or even vaping. If you are here though, I am betting they didn’t work permanently. I use hypnosis to make changes deep in your subconscious.

My Quit Smoking Hypnotherapy program is designed to work in just 1 session! Meaning you’ll be smoke-free as soon as we finish working together!

The average pack of 20 cigarettes in the UK is just under £10. This means that someone with a habit of 20-per day spends around £3,650 per year on their smoking habit. That’s just under £300 per month.

This means that in just over a month you will recoup the costs of my quit smoking session which costs just £375. You’ll start feeling the health benefits even sooner!

Need a Little More Piece of Mind?

 

For the majority of my clients, the one-session is enough. For those that want a little more peace of mind, however, I offer a package with repeat sessions.

For £500 you get the initial quit-smoking in one session alongside up to 5 backup sessions in case you fall off the wagon at some point.
